drop blocks
 

hey all while doing research on bagged 67-72's ive noticed people have been running rear drop blocks, but cant find any info on why. is it to just sit lower all together?

Yes, lets you sit lower while keeping the bag within its optimal installed height range, which leads to better ride quality. Also helps the long panhard bars clear a c-notch.

As of now I havnt installed my adjustable panhard bar, or put in my notch. But if I put in some 2" drop blocks it should sit 2" lower than this ?

Looks like the frame is sitting on (or near) the axle out back. Drop blocks won't overcome this interference to get you any lower--you'll need the c-notch for that...

You are correct! Hoping to get my notch installed In the next couple weeks! So putting in blocks at this point won't do or help anything ?

I use lowering blocks to keep the ride height low, with the correct amount of air in the bags.

Blocks will let you have more air pressure in your bags at ride height (basically your bag can be aired-up 2" taller) which will improve ride quality (to a point, after which it gets very firm/bouncy). You want your bags within the manufacturer's recommended installed height range while at your desired ride height. Also with blocks, your shocks are more likely to be in their optimal travel, near center-stroke, versus over-compressed.

I personally would not do bags in stock location without 2" blocks, long panhard, c-notch, and shock relocators. All that said, it's up to you, your ride height desires, and budget, but it certainly won't hurt to have blocks installed as you move forward with c-notch and panhard mods.

Buuuuut (big but), if you are happy with how it feels now, you can probably do without.

The blocks also help w/shock travel on trucks using OE placed mounts.

Since the block raises the rear end from its position above the T/A but doesn't alter the location of the shock mounts, you get some additional drop w/o impacting the shocks available travel.
