Engine positioning question
 

Current setup: 1st gen SB 350 & TH400 in a '68 SWB stepper. Swapping in a Vortec 5.3 & 4l60 from a 2005 Silverado.
Question: to avoid driveshaft modification, where should the engine be positioned? Moved forward, back, or original position? Any mount recommendations to achieve this? I am hoping that the two engine/tranny combos are basically the same dimensions so it will be in the same original position so my shifter linkage won't have to be modified. Any advice/recommendations? Thanks!

Depends on the length of your 400. You will at least need a new yoke for the 60e. If the transmission lengths are identical, 1" setback mounts will put the engine/bellhousing location in the same relative location as your current setup.

Honestly, there are bigger/more expensive things to worry about than driveshaft length. I'd get the drivetrain fitting right and clearing everywhere else, then cut/build a driveline to fit.

I just re-mounted the same engine / trans combo in my 67 yesterday after cleaning up the firewall and frame. I used the CPP sheet metal stands and slider mounts with their trans crossmember. I used the rear position on the frame for the stands and pushed the engine as far back as possible without my headers touching the firewall. i did need to drill 4 holes for the new crossmember as it fell right in between the holes from the original trans crossmember. I was able to use the same driveline but since you'll need to switch yokes (27 spline) make sure you measure and get a yoke length that fits accordingly.
