New to the forums, new to the big truck world. Brakes?
 

I recently picked up a 68 Chevy C50, I have got it running and I am able to drive it around the farm. The problem I am running into is with the brakes. I am able to stop the truck after multiple pumps of the brakes, I attempted to flush and bleed the lines, however, I am only getting a small drip to come out. Any suggestions on how to either fix my brakes in a different way, or solve my bleeding problem? Thanks!

Sounds like you might have a bad master cylinder or need to do a thorough bleeding including the master cylinder. Does it have power brakes?

there should be 2 bleader screws on the master/booster under the cab .

also 1 on the firewall booster possible .

and also check and see if you are holding vac on the booster under the cab . if not this might be a bad check valve .

but with out seeing what you have some of this info might be wrong . as there was a few systems .

and also if the brake shoes are out of adjsutment or paper thin material then they need adjusted or replaced .

Thank you for the advice. I tried again to bleed the line. The truck does have power brakes and it has a single chamber master cylinder. I think the booster is good considering depressing the brakes while the truck is running is significantly easier. However, the more I use the brakes while its running, it feels like I am losing all brake pressure.

Another thing I found is that the bleeding valves only trickle on the rear wheels, unlike the front two wheels which bleed like a normal vehicle would.

The last question I have is, how common is it for the master cylinder to go out? There is clearly wet spots that build up where the master cylinder meets the booster. Is this a sign of a bad master cylinder? If so, how do I go about removing it?

if you cant hold vac in the booster under the cab then you wont get any assist help . then the more you drive it the less brakes you get .

like i said check to see if it holds vac .
