Did I choose the right tire?

Hello All.

Truck is finally close to being show and road ready.
The current pictured Michelin Wide-X have to be replaced. Though new, truck sat in warehouse for a decade and tire walls have cracks in them.
Replacing them with BF Goodrich Radial T/A 275/60/R15. Did I make a good choice?
Its either that size or size lower of 255/70/R15.

Which would you have chosen for this truck? Really like how classic the BF Goodrich Radials look.

Either will look good in my opinion. The 255/70's will be about one inch taller and a little narrower than the 275/60's. Here's a couple of pics of my truck with 275/60's all the way around.

I have 275/60's on one and 255/70's on the rear of another. For a lower look, 275/60's are the ticket.

Re: Did I choose the right tire?

My reason for going with 275 60 15 was mainly more rubber on the road for the 400 turbo. In terms of safety. Does it matter? The 255 70 15 has less rubber on the road but taller. Does it make that much of a difference being that its only an inch? I dont plan to drag race or anything. Its more of a show and weekend cruiser.

Re: Did I choose the right tire?

I have a beater 71 GMC i picked up earlier this year. And I put 255 70 15 on the rear and 225 70 15 on the front. I think the 275 are too big for the front and that the taller tire fills up the rear wheel well better.

Coincidentally, they are the same height as the 235 55 17 and 275 55 17 on my short step which I think is perfect.

Offroad and at the dragstrip, at least aired down at both locales, you get more rubber on the road with the length of the contact patch rather than the width.

255 70 15 will probably get you better gas mileage though I like the 60s better appearance wise if your happy with what you have keep it

Re: Did I choose the right tire?

Im new to the truck game. Forced into it before I was ready. Not complaining. But the learning curve is steep and fast.

Does the inch difference in a 60 and 70 make a difference? Do you guys see the difference?
The truck is stock height. Im not trying to go lowrider. Just want to keep it looking like the classic truck it is.

Re: Did I choose the right tire?

If your truck is stock ride height then the 255/70's will fill the fender wells better. Lowered trucks look better with the 275/60's, IMO. The 275/60's also will increase your rpm's at highway speed as compared to the 255/70's if you're running a 373 or higher rear end ratio. If you're running a 3.07 rear end either size will be fine.

I've been running 255/60/15 on the front and 275/60/15 on the rear for years. Dropped spindles in front and 5" drop springs rear. works and looks good.
