63 Cab On A 72 Frame
 

I've read a bunch on this and it seems pretty straightforward but I still thought I'd ask for input. I have a 63 C20 and I want to put the cab on a 72 C30 frame. It's the 157" wheelbase frame. I'm doing a flat bed so that's not an issue. I've read the radiator mounts will need to be modified and possibly move the front cab mounts. The 72 is an 8" frame though where the 63 is 6". I'm assuming that's going to make the cab sit higher. I want to lower the front end eventually.

Any tips, suggestions, or thought?

Is there something wrong with your frame?
You gain absolutely nothing using a newer frame.
Also, your VINs won't match.
So, why don't you want to use your frame?

How will the registration work? With 2 vin numbers? One on the frame and the other on the cab?

I bought the frame for the suspension. I wanted to make my truck a dually and I wanted the front disc brakes. But now that it's home I'm really digging the longer wheel base. I'm doing a raked out flat bed and I think it will dramatize the look. The 72 only has 62,000 miles on it so it's all in great shape. My truck is practically all stripped down right now so it's easy to go in either direction.
I'm building sort of a novelty truck to advertise my business, go to a few local events, and drive around town a little. So I want to be a little absurd to get attention.
I'm in the desert where hot rodding is huge. Registration is pretty relaxed around here. They only use the cab numbers. There's tons of cars here that don't match up.

that frame doesn't look right for a 157" w/base C30
note in the following picture on how the frame kicks up fairly close to the rear of the cab on a 65 C30 with 157"w/b

You're right. I just found the thread and reread it. Holy crap it's a 262" wheelbase. 157" is still 30" longer than what I have and I gain a 1/4 ton. Is that your truck in the picture?

yes. C30 only came in 133 and 157" so someone must have stretched it a little. most hwy tandems have a 232"wb so that frame may be a little flexible
