8lug to 6 lug conversion
I am sure someone on here has done a 8 lug to 6 lug conversion
so curious what is needed to swap to 6 lug |
Re: 8lug to 6 lug conversion
Why? Smaller brakes? If you want a half ton buy one. I messed up replacing torsion bars, but now everyone is chopping up trucks that are better supplied for parts. I grew up shopping junk yards for parts.

Re: 8lug to 6 lug conversion
You will have to change the entire front suspension including the crossmember to either a '63-'70 drum brake suspension or a '71-'87 disc brake suspension and change to the aftermarket 6 lug rotors. For the rear you will need a 12 bolt from a '63-'70 C10.

Re: 8lug to 6 lug conversion
Curious why the cross member has to be changed
I have a complete 64 rolling c10 chassis I thought I might could use all the suspension from. to swap over to 6 lug and use aftermarket disc brakes The 8 lug truck is a 64 4wheel drive Stageway 4 door truck |
Re: 8lug to 6 lug conversion
So your taking a 4x4 4 door 3/4 ton and making a 2wd half ton? Seems your going the wrong way.

Re: 8lug to 6 lug conversion
Where did any confusion come from?
I have a 64 8-LUG 4 wheel drive and considered swapping over to 6 lug I posted that I have a 6 lug rolling chassis and had asked about using it as a PARTS DONOR I never said I was going away from the 4wd I don't know what is involved with making a 8 lug into a 6 lug is why I asked |

Right on, I got it now. You could use the rear axle with some modifications. You will have to make or obtain some spring perches and weld them on as well as shock mounts. The drive line may also have to be modified to fit the 6 lug differential. Ideally it might be easier to find and purchase some matching Chevy 4x4 6 lug front and rear differentials from 1963 to 1972. You will still have to make some modifications on any 4x4 parts above 1966. You will have to use Chevy six lug differentials from 1971 to 1987 to get disc brakes but will require more modifications than the earlier years. |
Re: 8lug to 6 lug conversion
Your original post said nothing about either being a 2wd or a 4wd. Totally different to change from 8 lug to 6 lug.
Still yet you say that you have a '64 C10 rolling chassis for a donor. That would indicate that you are wanting to change from a 8 lug 4wd to a 6 lug 2wd. Quote:
