weatherstrip question - trim groove
 

I see different kits for the weatherstrip on the trucks that say with or without trim groove. May be a dumb question, but what is that trim groove?

For windshield and rear window, if you are going to use stainless steel trim you will need weatherstrip with trim groove. If no trim will be used your weatherstrip won't need trim groove.

Chrome trim around the windshield and rear glass. Apparently its a PITA to work with. I'm happy mine is a plain jane truck without that trim. :)

Make sure you get the correct trim grove one. Some trims need a deep grove, some trim needs a shallower grove.

The deep trim and shallow trim windshield and rear window gaskets look the same on the outside and the years will interchange as long as you have the correct gasket for the trim you have. The ’71/‘72 shallow trim has a 3/8 lip on it and uses the shallow groove gaskets, and the ’67/’70 deep trim has a 5/8 lip on it and uses the deep groove gaskets. In my experience the gasket with the deep trim is easier to install..... Put the gasket on the glass, then put the trim in the gasket, and install as a unit. You may have to put a few strips of masking tape around it to hold everything together until you are ready to install it.

I wouldn't buy the repo trim. From what I read it doesn't fit too well and makes the windshield almost impossible to install.

Ok I have trim and the part that goes into the seal it looks to be over 58/8 deep is it long or short I should be able to pull it tomorrow to make sure and get a real measurement.

I have never bought a "kit", just individual pieces.

I think me and CJ are both completely resealing our trucks at I know I am but mine is being completely torn apart will change some of the Suspension and I an welding a lot of the area under the carpet because seams have completely come apart. Bad spot welds by Chevy i think when they made mine. I figure 2 years and I will put about another 10k in her already put 6500 in a 500HP 383 stroker with forged crank, forged rods, forged pistons 750 Double pumper carb, cam with 6 in lift, edelbrock highrise intake, Hydrolic roller rockers, still have to buy the chrome and aluminum pulley or serpentine.

Yeah i picked up a 70 gmc 2500 and havent tested the front and rear windows. But I know the doors and side wing windows will leak. Figured i should get the whole kit at once. I was looking at classic industries. It's about $200 but if those aren't very good I'd like suggestions for good ones.

Yup about 200 is what I am seeing for the complete set to with the trim type.

If I were you I would look to www.PRP.com for gasket kits. I used the ones made by Counterpart and they are inaccurate at best. I purchased a door seal kit and the window gaskets from them and they fit perfectly. My windshield gasket was the most impressive. After I went through 3 of the Counterpart gaskets (sold by LMC, Classic industries and many others) I turned to PRP and WOW, what a difference. Good luck

Hey thank you, that's what I was looking for. Someone else I talked to mentioned that precision weatherstrip fit good. I'll order from them when the time comes.
