Grille guard question?
1 Attachment(s)
Been on vacation the last several weeks and picked up this grille guard along the way :). It isn't a "bubba" model, it's made specifically for our trucks but I cannot find a manufacturer name or model number on it. I know it isn't factory oem, but maybe Hickey or Cepek, something along those lines? I plan on putting it on the 68 when I get a chance.

Re: Grille guard question?
Smittybuilt [-bilt?] made the better aftermarket roll bars. Maybe they made these too. I have an old vintage JC Whitney catalog, I could check, but often they don't list the manufacturer.

Re: Grille guard question?
This is from a 1981 catalog.
" Custom Fit * Heavy-duty 3" Steel GRILLE GUARD for pickups, 4WDs, Jeep vehicles ...Chevrolet: 67-72 pickup and Blazer...96-4843UF [black], 96-4844F [chrome] * Strong one-piece welded steel construction * Protection for grille and front end "Made of .090'' wall tubing, welded to 5/16'' thick steel side plates. Mounts quickly and easily to your bumper, using existing bumper mounting holes and bolts. Choice of black high gloss acrylic enamel finish or brilliant chrome plating. Instructions included. Shipped from Colorado. No COD orders. Black....$69.95, Chrome.....$129.95..." So what manufacturers were in Colorado then? |
Re: Grille guard question?
the bolt hole locations suggest its for a later vehicle

House of Steel, Desert Dynamics, as well as other companies were making these and no one I know of put any markings on this stuff. Looks like the 67-72 bumper profile to me.
Here are a couple versions on trucks I've had. Most all had 2" pipe. The one you have has smaller tubes that I recall on Hickeys... but my recall isn't what it used to be |

Thanks for the pics and info SK. Someone else suggested Smittybuilt or Con-Ferr, I guess there were a lot of manufacturers at the time. It fits the bumper profile and bolts to the frame underneath for solid support. |
Re: Grille guard question?
Not a Hickey. The Hickey push bars had provisions (holes) to bolt on side extensions that protected the headlights.

Re: Grille guard question?
Was that one off the CL finds?
