mirror mounting

I had to knock out all 3 bolts and nuts from my drivers door for the original mirror, and was wondering what would be recommended to put in the holes as far as bolts and nuts to hold an original mirror on the door? I'm not overly concerned about it looking factory as it's a daily driver. Also, does anyone have a template I could use for the opposite door(passenger) to mount one there as well? I tried to make one but it didn't come out right?
Thanks everyone and have a safe and happy labor day. I will be working. Blah!

You can use RivNuts to replace the stock welded in square nuts.

I don't have any dimensions but here's what I did. I transferred the driver's door hole dimensions over to the passenger door and drilled through the skin and doubler underneath. Made a bracket and used the mirror to position the nuts to which I then welded to the bracket.

Then, I drilled three holes in the skin and doubler between the mirror mounting bolt holes and plug welded the bracket to the door. You can just see the ground down plug welds; one between the vertical holes and two between the horizontal holes. There was a gap between the doubler and the skin so that's why there are tacks within the holes holding the doubler to the skin.

Nice idea there damnyankee36.
I'm going the rivnut route myself or I would steal your idea there.
