POR 15 Experience
 

Any one had good luck with POR 15 on new metal ? I replaced my inner rockers and would like to paint the entire floor with POR 15 most of floor is in good shape just a few spots of light rust, would be easier to just paint all of floor but don't want to have issues later.

I have used it on a couple of trailers. It goes on really shiny and then dulls very quickly. It's almost like a powdery finish after it has set for a while or has been exposed to the sun. You really need to use it as a primer and then paint on to of that. Don't get it on your skin. It will take 1-2 weeks for it to wear off. Don't apply it to a gloss finish, it will come right off. Apply it to a rough or rusty surface and it will adhere 100% better.

If you use it on fresh metal, you will need to rough it up. Por 15 is made to paint on rusty metal, and doesn't stick as well to fresh clean metal. Scuff it up good, or hit it with a sandblaster before you use the Por15.

I've used it a lot over the years. Needs a scuffed surface. I sand with a air tool with 80 grit on new metal and it sticks like glue. They make a top coat for areas that are exposed to sunlight. When doing my rust repairs I also sand blast or sand the pieces that I won't have access later to paint later before I install them. Like the inside of the rocker panel ECT. When spot welding around painted areas I puts off an awful smoke/odor. I keep a fan running behind me so I don't breath it. But I also have to be careful I don't blow my argon gas away either.

DEFINITELY don't get it on you!!! And apply in WELL ventilated area. Good stuff otherwise.

Have used POR-15 a few times. Works great when done properly. Definitely use the prep product. Lot of guys make mistake only using the paint.
