Soft Ray (green) or clear glass?
Wanted to get everyone's opinion on which glass they prefer. I don't want the gray tinted glass and want to stick with either the Soft Ray (green) or clear. Plan is to paint the truck the factory turquoise with white from the belt line up. From a vision point of view, can you even tell a difference once you're in the truck and looking through the windows? It's been a while since I've driven a vehicle without aftermarket film tint.
Since I will be replacing all the glass, I want all the glass to match one way or another, all Soft Ray or all clear. I've heard the aftermarket door windows can be a smaller thickness so I've thought about having the door windows and even the vent windows cut from an automotive glass shop. Same if the rear glass isn't the same thickness as the factory. Any aftermarket suppliers you would stay away from due to smaller thickness, etc? Thanks |
Re: Soft Ray (green) or clear glass?
I say go with soft-ray. Where as the tint is only marginally perceptible when sitting inside looking out, it is quite noticeable when viewing the truck from a distance. The soft green color will absolutely tie in with the turquoise paint. I think you'll be glad you did it. I have a turquoise truck with a white cab and I converted to soft-ray and I love the look.

+1 on SoftRay. It just looks so cool (while keeping you cool).

I just took my wife out for dinner in the truck so I parked in the sun and tried for a distance shot to show the color match of truck and glass.

Bringing this thread back for a minute.. Can I ask where you got the bracket that attaches to the bottom of the glass inside the door? I'm about to convert all my glass to this green tint, but for the life of me, I can't find any new track brackets to attach to the bottom of the glass... they only sell clear glass with the bracket installed.. Edit: nevermind! found a place that sells green glass with the bracket installed.. Auto City Classic |
Re: Soft Ray (green) or clear glass?
You may have to get the lower part from Aspen or some place like that and buy the glass separate.

Believe it or not, I actually found o.e.m green side windows in a junkyard so they came with the bracket too.

Re: Soft Ray (green) or clear glass?
When I first purchased my truck it had a green tint windshield that when looked through seemed like a georgeous day. The side wondows were clear and looked like grey skies. You'll notice a star reflection with the green glass on anything thats reflecting sunlight. It was optioned for A/C trucks as well.
