Off the cuff, maybe that part came off a CUCV military truck. Basically a 4x4 square with a few military options. They came with 24V systems.

Its a 1977 C30 wrecker. Its seen better days. I did't think the CUCV military trucks came with the earlier front?

Re: Whats this for?

I am pretty sure that is the mounting hole for the toggle switch that is wired to a solenoid to switch from 12v to 24v to jump start a vehicle.
conveniently located at the front where most of the work is.
look under/around the front bumper for a coupler for jumper cables.

I haven't found any jump cables. But it does have 2 volt gauges. There is only 1 battery so it has probably been removed.

CUCV's were built in the 80's and the looks like a 70's bezel. Regardless I worked for GM dealers during the era and never seen that as OEM.

Re: Whats this for?

I'm starting to guess it was a Ernest Holmes accessory.

Could it have been for a snow plow wiring? Just a guess.
