68 c10 shortbed rebuild

Gearing up to start tearing into this project. Picked up 4 trucks and a bunch of parts from a friend, and this is the first one to come home. Its got typical floor and rocker rust, but its a factory shortbed truck. I need to find a bed for it, but if i cant find one reasonably priced i have a couple rusty longbeds ill cut down and make 1 good shorty.

I plan on pulling it in the shop here in the next week or two, so stay tuned for the teardown and rebuild. Ill post some more pictures when i am able to go rescue the rest of the trucks and parts as well!

She looks like a good project, can't wait to see what you do with it? Nice tow truck too!

Well, finally made some room and got it in the shop. It needs a lot of work but i am up for the challenge. Ive got cleaner cabs but would like to learn this rust repair instead of just swapping the cab.

I got the front sheetmetal all torn off and the interior gutted. I did manage to make the old 250 run, but i cant decide if i want to keep it or put a 350 in it. I still have a while to figure that out yet. Im now just waiting on all the patch panels before i cut any more.

And it turns out someone welded the bed to the frame, so i need to get that cut off without gouging the frame too bad.

Been slowly making some progress on this truck. Purchased a $300 donor 83 long bed, had a running 350 with edelbrock carb and hooker headers, working th350 trans, and most important... disk brakes!

I removed the entire front suspension from the donor truck and bolted it to the 68 frame. It was really quite straight forward. I had to enlarge the 3 lower holes on each side of the frame for the larger 83 hardware, and drill 1 new hole for the upper forward most bolt. the 68 motor mounts also lined up with existing holes in the 83 cross member. Its almost meant to be!

Now i need to focus on the worst part of the whole project, rust repair!
