I bought this dyna glow pro a few years ago from one of the local pawn shops for $100.00 I replaced the ignitor box (like $15.00) after about a year and since then it's worked perfect ,Auto thermostat will keep it nice and toasty at 72 all week for about $12.00 Using diesel

I used one of those for a few years. When I moved and built a bigger shop I put in a hanging LP heater and so far it works great.

I have a hanging propane heater that is set to 50(mainly to keep the pipes from freezing). If I want it warmer than that, I get the wood stove going.

Those torpedo heaters work good, but the fumes burn my eyes and puts a funny taste in the air.

I have a propane jet heater. It heats well, but since my garage isn't insulated it has to run almost constantly. It's really loud, too.

I just open the door between basement stairway and garage. Attached garages are nice.

If I limit use of overhead doors my garage stays just above freezing. Good for slush melt and great for deer carcass seasoning

I installed this around this time last year. I pretty much only fire it when I know I'll be out there for a while.

Getting familiar with how it works I burned about 30 some gallons through it last year.
I learned if I keep the thermostat set around 50-60 seems to be the comfortable Hoodie/flannel wearing sweet spot.

I still keep my loud stinky turbo heater around for back up though.

I have a pot belly wood stove and a kerosene heater. Now I need a shop. I used those in the barn shop I used to have and just used the wood stove. I ran conduit pipe across the work bay (ways separated bays) at about 8' and laid cheap blue tarp across for a ceiling. You could see light through the corrugated tin walls but it plenty warm in there

I will use my 4 foot tall on casters 45000 watt radient infrared heater, , I added blown in insulation to the attic and that gave me some 10 degrees warmer than out side ...

This 220 volt heater will either warm an area only where you are working or in time it will heat up the whole garage.. I have not done this yet ,but from using it before when I had a shop ,,it did keep and area pretty warm ... but I had to move it to where ever I was working and that some times was kinda a nuicense ..

If I figured it correctly ,,I should be able to have this heater turned on all day for 8 hours for some where around $3 @ 8 cents a KW

A hanging gas heater. My shop is insulated with spray foam, so not hard to heat. 65' is my working temp.

Sounds like a pretty good heat to work in ..my have to turn the shop fridge up a notch to keep the brews cold.

When I lived out in Oregon we had NO gas heat ,,all electric and Cheap too.. so when I moved here I had a sale before and after arriving and no one wanted a electric heater that I paid $300 for in eather local..

So now ,,,I am glad it didnt sell as it is going to work out just right here ..electric rates are around 8.5 I think and for the enjoyment of being able to work on my 39 durring the snow days will be just fine.

I use a 30k BTU natural gas ceiling mounted unit in my 24x30. I found leaving it on 50 and turning it up when I'm in there works best. Gas bill was $200 for entire winter last year

thats all i ever used for the past 15 years. has always worked fine unless its insanely cold like -20 but even then it would work you just have to turn it on like a hour ahead of time and have it blow on you. i think mine is starting to go out last year it seems to shut off after like a hour

Don't have a usable garage, so I guess I am stuck...oh wait, I live in SE Arizona, no heat needed!

I try to use uninformed in-laws whenever possible.....no shortage of hot air to accompany the range of nonsensical ideas and opinions.

My shop has a propane overhead radiant tube heater and temp is left at 50 degrees all the time. Working temp is usually 60 degrees which with radiant heat is really comfortable.

Doesnt get too cold where I live so just one mother in law does the trick. Although I do like to keep the garage on the cooler side so she doesn't have to hang out in the garage with me all the time. :lol:

I installed a forced air furnace when I first built this a few years back. We actually lived in a portion of my shop when finishing up the house build so it was "necessary". It makes for a comfortable environment lol

i always wondered do you guys even have furnaces in your house? i would guess some nights it has to get a little cold?

My garage is all insulated so I normally just use a spot electric heater. It works pretty good when you choose what days to work temp wise.:chevy:

I'll be working ON the house all winter this year.

For some reason I hate working in the garage with the door closed, so if it's below 45-50*, it can wait until next week :)

We have pretty mild winters here... if it's not at least 50 one week, it will be next week.

This little jewel heats my 3000 sq ft with ease. We have several through the wall package units that we salvaged from a government job. I should put one of those in and sell the rest.

After working in 3 different repair facilities for almost 30 years and i was the only one to check on the health of the free hanging gas heaters and finding that after as little as 3 years the heat exchanger would be rusted out from the inside out i said i was going to do something different for MY shop. I installed a new SEALED COMBUSTION hot air furnace. It's been 25 years now in service and an occasional dust blow out and filters changed it works like new and no rusted out heat exchanger. It's a counter flow (down flow) mounted on a 2' high metal box with three sides covered and the hot air blows out on the floor. Works awesome.

If you look at a grainger catalog they have a note saying " no warranty for these heaters mounted in an environment with fumes, solvents, etc, creating what is called halogenated hydrocarbons". Another words, if warm inside shop air is being used for combustion and bad fumes are present it will rot out the heat exchanger.

My rant is from 3 shops, 3 different owners, and carbon monoxide poisioning noted and discussed with all 3 and it fell on deaf ears. I offered free labor to install a replacement SEALED COMBUSTION heater after hours to limit business down time and was turned down every time. The last owner pissed me off enough that i left the auto repair field 3 weeks later and go to the power industry. Now retired with a pension and health benifits i should thank him.

I'm posting this to inform you guys that the great working heater hanging near your ceiling (and they do work great) may poison you or kill you, so take a moment and get a ladder out and look at the back side where the fan is and when it's lit and heeating look at the vertical sections that the fan blows on and check for cracks and you may even see the flame glow shine through the cracks. This area is the coolest because of the fan so it condenses inside the metal exchanger and that mixes with the fumes and creates acidic sweat. Do you use carb cleaner? brake cleaner? Laquer thinner? Enamel reducer? Have children that can visit your grave site??

Dealing with asthma, fighting with owners for a proper repair, feeling tired in winter and coming home exhausted falling asleep on the living room floor with my coat on for 2-3 hours, maybe i can save one truck forums life!! Enough of my old man rant, but you have now been informed.

So true.

Any gas fired heater should be inspected at least annually, and carbon monoxide detectors should be in place.
