build sticker
I purchased a 71 chevy truck, the person I bought it from spray painted the truck inside and out, but he painted the build sheet in the glove box. Does anyone have ideas on how to remove paint and save build sheet. Jackie

Re: build sticker
some SPID's came with a clear vinyl cover, some did not. If yours has the clear cover you may be able to remove the paint. Whatever solvent you try, apply it to the lower portion of the label. This area is usually blank unless the truck is highly optioned. If it doesn't have the clear cover I think you're out of luck.
A good site for info & re-produced SPIDs http://outintheshop.com |
Re: build sticker
I think the key word is "spray painted"
If its simply rattle can spray paint, usually some mild solvent or easy off oven cleaner will soften it enough so that you can get it off. if its automotive grade paint, then it becomes more difficult depending on the type of paint. Old school straight lacquers and enamels can be softened with lacquer thinner, some adhesive removers or even mild spray paint strippers.........but if its a more modern 2k urethane base paint, then its gonna be a tough to get it off! |
Re: build sticker
if automotive paint lacquer thinner may get it off, but damage the decal. New SPIDs are available from a member here, his website is out in the shop

Re: build sticker
Start with denatured alcohol first. It's not as harsh. Then you can try laquar thinner or reducer
Sorry to say I don't think your spid sheet will survive it but it's worth a shot. |

Re: build sticker
Thanks guys for info, I think it is a new style paint and probably won’t come off without damage to sticker but I’m going to try first on the bottom with weaker solvent then go stronger if needed. Can’t do any worse than it is now.
