Flooring question

I pulled out the nasty old carpet from my '79, and removed the thick tar-paper with Jute underneath. There was a bit of rust starting from a leak, but I think I fixed that, and I treated the rust and fiber-glassed over it and painted it.

I bought a Rubber replacement floor mat (OEM style) from Classic Parts, and I bought the sound deadening mat to go under it. Will the combo of those two be good enough or do I need a layer of Jute as well?

I've never used jute so take this advice with a grain of salt, but I would suggest using the jute. I couldn't imagine the heat dissipative mating and the rubber floor mat could offer much sound deadening.

Re: Flooring question

I think the ones that came from the factory with rubber flooring actually had nothing under the rubber, but as I recall they were loud inside.

I may be able to salvage some of the Jute that was in it before, but even if I have to order some, I was thinking the same thing.

More pad = better

I am way out of town, and the only thin near me would be a carpeting store, but maybe even carpet padding would work?

Re: Flooring question

My truck came with the side to side rubber OEM floor mat. I found that it trapped moisture between the mat and floor and kept the padding under the mat wet, which caused a lot of in cab rust. Replaced the OEM floor mat with near matching shag carpet and a pair of mats that only cover the area where your feet go.

I have factory rubber in my 83 High Sierra. It has jute underneath it.

My old 79 Scottsdale was the same.

Re: Flooring question

The rubber floor mat from Classicparts.com was only a front-half mat, and I wanted a whole mat (my bad), so I returned it and bought a full-floor vinyl mat from CaptKaos. Getting ready to install. It comes from ACC and is a VERY heavy duty mat, and should be great once all the work is done. Will have to do some trimming and cut all the holes.

Bonus, it comes with padding for the front half, and my rear padding is still in good shape.

Will post pics when done!

Got the ACC Vinyl floor in yesterday (bought from CaptnKaos). Like I said, it is HEAVY duty, and a real fun job to install... ha. But I think it came out great! This is part of a complete interior refurb I did , and will post more pics in another thread soon.

Looks good. Did the same thing to my K30 dump.
