What is old is new again. Nicely done!

It is funny how we all went with the stripped down look at one point and now back to the molding. My truck was completely slicked before I got it and now it is coming back full circle to having all of it's trim.

My C10 originally had trim down the side and I removed it, filled in the holes and went with the clean look!

I got wicked sick after I made my post. I threw up 7 times in 3 hours Saturday morning, I don't think I've done it that many times in the last 20 years combined.

Anyway, for those that don't know, GM did offer a CST trim package on stepsides, but the hilarious thing is you ONLY got trim on the cab and front clip. As far as I know, I'm the first to try putting the trim on a stepside???

I've always wanted to see it, and I like it, so I think I'll keep it. I still plan to fleet swap the truck, but it won't be for a couple more years. I had to stop working on the bed to reside my house. I plan on building a shop this year, so all car stuff is on hold.

Perpendicular, WOW, she looks gorgeous with that trim!!!

I like your stepper a lot with the trim. I noticed some of the new trucks only have trim on the front half, saw a new Dodge with no bed trim.

No need to get that sick worrying about whether or not we will approve of your new trim. :lol: Looks good. It is hard to tell from the pictures but does trim make the bend around the front of the fender?

No, it doesn't. I tried to curve it but because of all the stiff shapes it just kinked. So I kind of mimicked the back of the cab, it stops where the fender curves around.

The pieces I cut off are pretty long still, I'd like to try to cut the backing and make it curve so it goes more around the fender.

Very Cool, and well done. I have not tried to bend any of this so, just throwing in my 2 cents. Even if you score the back side edges the ribs in the center will probably not want to bend. You could shape some epoxy or fiber resin. I would make wood trough the width of the trim, 1/2 fill with polyurethane caulk, spray wax, release agent on 18" length, press into mold Clamp, let it dry for a couple days. I have done similar molds for contour sanding blocks. What you have done looks really good, just the way it is, but if you get board / rained out on your renovation you could try something completely different...Ed.

I have always liked your truck Jesse and seriously I am happy to see her driven. Nice job on the trim. It is unique and fits your truck.

This does look good on your truck.

Since you have one of the most notable stepsides once I saw this thread i hoped the fleetside swap would faze itself out only cause it's harder to pull off something unique like what you did here.


I looked at buying a 68 k series long stepper years ago and someone bent and relief cut the edges and still kinking the trim around the front and back of the rear fenders and they had cut straight pieces for over the bedside too step seam that were mitered cut onto the bent peices.
The seller tried telling me it was all factory and had the price was way jacked up because of how rare it was with the trim.

Flat head wood screws staggered 6" apart on EVERY single peice front too back.

I would have bought that truck for sure if they would have got off the rare trim kick and realized it was just a long bed k stepper.
Still a very cool truck, not too common around here anymore.
Being a pa rust bucket it still needed way more work than most of us would want too anyway...:mm:

I agree, it was silly for GM not to continue the trim to the rear. Your mod makes the truck look "balanced" when it comes to trim.

I really like that! I've always wondered what a stepside would look like with trim all the way down. I think it looks great the way it is without wrapping around the fender. It'd be interesting to see what it looks like wrapping around, but then it might look weird because there's no trim on the back of the cab or bedside.

If you can convince my wife to let me have just one more vehicle... there's a lot of nice longbeds out there that need my shortbed. So far she says no, but maybe a nice 67 longbed will show up one day unexpectely and need frame surgery?

I love driving the truck. It's a staple of our local truck club as well. I don't drive it as much daily as I used to (bought my first new truck a couple years ago) mostly because of the absolute IDIOTS that drive here during rush hour, but she sees A LOT of weekend duty.

I really don't know what I had. My wife is still at home with the flu. I feel fine other than watery # poo still. If it was food poisoning it's the worst I've ever had in my life. My wife and I ate the EXACT same thing friday night for dinner (I usually skip lunch on fridays) and she didn't get sick from it.

So, I didn't really dig my first attempt at the front of the fender. It looked stupid.

So today I tried a couple different ways to bend the cut off scraps from the front and rear cut offs. Yeah... it will tweak a little, then just kinks. This stuff is pretty strong.

So here's how stupid the front looked. It just didn't look right to me. It was just too short. That's as far as I could take the trim before the fender starts bowing in.
