electric impact driver?
 

I'm going to get myself a electric impact driver, mainly for tire changes.
My lugnuts aren't rusted or stuck, i mainly want the driver to save wear and tear on my old shoulders. But I am looking ahead to when i get to my steering and suspension and am wondering if i should get a 3/8" or 1/2" drive.
Would a 3/8" be sufficient to break loose my original steering and suspension?

I have an older Dewalt 1/2". It's not as strong as the new ones. With that said, I would suggest you get a 1/2" drive with the things you are planning to do with it.

Definitely 1/2 - for two reasons. First, the driver is going to have more torque, and you're going to need it. Second, the sockets will take more abuse.

ok thanks, i had been leaning towards 1/2" dr. I learned along time ago skimping on tools is counterproductive.

Spend the money and get the rechargeable 18 volt Milwaukee fuel 1/2” impact. The best tool you will ever own.

dewalt 20v 1/2" drive....as good as it gets for the money....next choice would be ingersall rand..but they are $$$

I have the dewalt 1/2" and use it for wheels all the time. Has been a good one. The new one has a bit more power. Check your local pawn shops. You can find some good deals on tools this time of year.

don't know if your looking for a battery powered or 120 volt, but the 1/2 inch harber freight 120 volt is a good buy. I had one that lasted about 20 years and when it went bad I got another that is still going strong after a couple years.

If anyone was wondering, I went with the Milwaukee fuel. i haven't had a chance to use it, but i tested it on a rear bumper bolt that has never been loosened. it broke loose easily. It seems like a well built tool, a little heavy, but i think i am happy with my purchase.

Did you get some impact sockets too?
Normal sockets will crack.
I’ve had my electric one for almost 30 years.
I even use it in construction. Works great for putting big lag bolts thru 4x4’s and 6x6’s.

yep, got some impact sockets, going to get a few deep sockets and adapters also.
i wish i had a tool like this in the past, i can remember many hours of muscling lag bolts in with a 1/2 breaker bar.

Great choice on the Milwaukee, have used mine to take semi lug nuts off at work and it did it without breaking a sweat. I don't use it for that kind of work all the time but its nice to know what its capable of. I haven't used the air impact since I got mine.
