Seam sealer. How to apply and recommended brands?
 

So I was away from home for a month, while my truck sat at home. I got in pumped the gas and hit the key...... She fired right up:metal:
As I pull out of the driveway, I got a FLOOD of cold water pour out of the glove box and onto my feet/legs. Not cool :devil:
Ok, so I have a leak in my drip rail
I start this thread to get tips, I site, and suggestions on how to use Seam Sealer on the Drip Rail around the top of the cab.
I know I need to clean out the old sealer and clean up the metal, but that's where my memory gets fuzzy.

1. Do I clean, then prime, then seal, then prime again, then paint?
Or
2. Do I clean, then seal, then prime, then paint?
Also does it come with complete instructions for application?

Use a wire brush to remove as much of the rust as possible. Then treat with Ospho or similar product. Then prime and apply the seam sealersealer then paint. Most modern seseam sealers don't require printing after. You can use Por15 too but you will need to scuff the Por15 so your primer will adhere to it. I can recommend Sem self leveling sealer. I did this on my Burban. There is some more info on the first couple of pages of my WMB thread. (Link below.). Although my experience is the water from the drip rail goes down the A pillar and down behind the kick panels and out the bottom of the truck unless that is plugged then it rots the kick panel and floorboard. Unfortunately water in the glove box usually comes in from the cowl or window seal being rusted through

Make sure it's not the heater core eiher.

I usually use 3M products, had good luck with them. You should also take off your cowl vent, there is one seam on each side below the corner of the windshield that will make a huge mess when they're leaking.

Good info, but I replaced my heater core last summer with no leaking. My problem is definitely the cab seams.
