Front wheel bearings - how to identify axle type?
I want to get new front wheel bearings for my 1970 C10, but the NAPA site lists two different products depending on the axle type on the truck and I'm not sure how to figure out what axle I've got. Can someone please tell me how to identify which front wheel bearings I should get?

Here are the choices from NAPA, which appear to be SKF bearings because the part numbers are the same:

Part Number: BRG BR2
Product Line: NAPA Bearings
IMPORTANT INFO: w/ IFS25 Axle

Part Number: BRG BR3
Product Line: NAPA Bearings
IMPORTANT INFO: w/ IFS30 & IFS35 Axles

How can I tell if I have an IFS25 axle or an IFS30/IFS35 axle?

Basically, get both sets, find which one you need, then take back the other.

You can look at the specifications on Rock Auto

BR2 - https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...1029776&jsn=35
BR3 - https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...1029776&jsn=44

It looks liked the outer diameter of the BR3 is larger at 1.9687 and the BR2 is 1.781

Similar bearings say something about "heavy duty brakes" I assume this means the wider drums not the standard 2 inch ones that would take the BR2.

If my info is correct (IF) there are two bearing options based on light duty brakes & heavy duty brakes. If your grease cap measures about 1.8" you have light duty, 2 & 3/16" is heavy duty. I would assume all 1/2 ton trucks for this year would be the same, guess I'm wrong!

OK, looked up front brakes & it shows an 11" drum option & a disc brake option! I thought '71 was the first year for discs. So, my guess, if you have drums you have "light duty" brakes.

Thanks guys , i do have the 2" shoes , light duty brakes. So feeling good its the IFS25 Axle. You never stop learning with these ole`trucks.

Pull bearings and unless they are destroyed, the size should still be on them. Bring them into an industrial supply house or transmission shop to match them up.
