I have a question
I have a 6.0 out of a 09 Pontiac G8 60,000 milesI pulled my intake and about 3 tablespoons of oil ran out when I turned it on end I remember reading something about this on earlier motors but can't remember what it was thanks Doug

Re: I have a question
This is every LS motor with any amount of mileage on it. They all will get some oil in the intake depending on how often it was changed, how it was driven, what oil was used it.
pop it off and clean it out. Make sure your pcv stuff is functioning, and consider running a form of oil catch can. |
Re: I have a question
I had figured the PCV valve had something to do with it I have the intake off that's when I realized there were three or four good tablespoons full of oil didn't quite understand the PCV valve as it appears to be pressed into the valve cover as this is my first LS experience as far as a catch can would this be between the PVC valve and the intake

Re: I have a question
There is no actual valve. It is a restricted orifice. For simplicity sake everyone still refers to it as a PCV valve.
Your catch can would go between the valley cover and the intake. From the valley cover to the inlet of the catch can, and from outlet of catch can to intake. |
Re: I have a question
would a PVC valve in place of this restricted orifice solve the problem

Re: I have a question
A PCV valve I believe is basically just a restricted check valve, like Ls1nova said it probably wont make a difference. You wouldnt really gain anything from it.
If you have your DOD disabled through a tune or obd2 device then it should never become a problem. Problems arise from a pin in the lifter getting worn or dirty and getting stuck in the open position, then the lifter will only collapse and never regain its solid status. If you are not moving those pins they shouldnt get stuck open. This is a really good article to read http://lt1swap.com/afm_delete.htm |
