Vin number on frame?

I've read here that part of the VIN number is stamped on the drivers side of the frame near the power steering pump. I've look in that area and can't find it.

Is it stamped on the outside of the frame or the inside of the frame.

Stamped on top of the frame adjacent to or slightly forward of the power steering pump, #'s are parallel with frame rail. May have to wire brush a little to reveal it. Mine was not noticeable either until wire brushing and sanding lightly.

Stamped on top of frame, near ps pump toward cab on my 71, probably hidden by inner fender. Also on frame under cab, about the center top.

I don't know the definitive answer on this, but Ive read on here many times that not all the GMC's have frame stamped partial vins.

My 67 GMC had no numbers on the frame

Inner fenders have been removed. Frame has been cleaned and painted. I still can't see any numbers. I can easily see the top of the frame in the area ps pump and to the cab.

I have a '71 GMC with no frame numbers. I'm guessing not all GMC's had them? My '70 Chevy is stamped.
