Power steering pump rebuild / reservoir removal
I want to rebuild my power steering pump and thus retain the original canister with its original look and hose orientation. Problem is the dang thing will not release from the body. I tried to gently massage it off with a rubber hammer but no go. Also tried a bit of heat...nada.
If I get to aggressive it will start to dent as it has fairly thin metal. Any tips? Oh and yes the bolts are all off:D |

You did remove the pressure regulator right.

Re: Power steering pump rebuild / reservoir removal
Clamp the iron snout of the pump into vise and go around the reservoir gently hitting it with a small rubber hammer , try to always hit it on the outer part where the front and side of the reservoir are folded together . Patience and plenty of penetrating oil are your friends ....:chevy:

Re: Power steering pump rebuild / reservoir removal
lay it with the internal side facing down in the vice and the outer canister facing up and try to tap it through the holes were the bolts were with a screwdriver or punch and rubber hammer. that's how I did mine
