Looking for some power steering insight.
 

A PO installed power steering on my 67 Burban and I have no information on what parts they used to make it happen. The steering works fine but I'm looking ahead for when it will need some help. It's the bracket that hold the pump to the block that is annoying me. It is hard to see in the photo but the circled bolt goes through the bracket and the motor mount's forward hole and holds both in place. There is no way to remove the bolt without removing the center motor mount bolt and jacking the engine up. And of course to get the center mount bolt out I had to remove the header. There is very little room to get wrench on the bolt. And if you did get it loose the high pressure power steering hose is right there in the same space preventing the bolt from being able to come out enough. I don't know if the hose is routed wrong or the hose itself is wrong, or do I need a different mount for the pump? There are three bolts holding the bracket to the block. The red arrows point to the other two which are easy to access.

My bracket looks just like yours.Yes they are a pain for that motor mount bolt.I believe that is the way they came.Someone else with more knowlege than me hopefully will chime in.

i have the same i bet that is the stock set-up Ive done my conversions while motor is out its a PIA...

It works fine? I would sleep well and "worry" about it IF it ever fails, which isnt likely to happen.

Here's a better look at that bracket and it has a 3rd bolt in the bottom that when removed separates the 2 sides so you don't have to mess with the side attached to the engine mount . :chevy:

Thanks everyone for the information. The track record of the PO on the truck has lead me to question things I find. So it's a PITA from GM and that's what it is. Since the engine is coming out I thought I should ask if there was a better way to mount the pump now would be the time to correct it. I will be cleaning up the unit and will make sure the bolt that holds the two brackets together is serviceable. That's an awfully nice bracket you have there Grumpy. SHINY!!!!!! Thanks for sharing.

Shiny makes them go faster doesn't it ? :lol: The problem is now all the rest of the factory brackets are at the chrome shop because heaven forbid they all don't match ...Call it a sickness this stuff never ends ...:chevy:

I added power steering of the same style to my Suburban and that bolt is a major PITA
