Oil consumption on 6.2 diesels?

I have only had two 6.2's and one (85 K30) I only drove a few times. When I had my 84 short bed the first time around it used quite a bit more oil than I would think it should use. It runs like a top but does smoke quite a bit. The smoke seems to go away more after it is good and warmed up but still uses oil. Exactly what should I expect of the 6.2's as far as oil consumption within a 3000 mile period?

I have three 6.2 & one 6.5 & none need much oil between changes, never more than one quart.
I don't drive the 6.2s much anymore but if yours is in good condition & the depression regulator is good it shouldn't use no whole lot of oil.

It runs very good in my opinion. I'm just not quite sure where to start with finding out my it uses so much oil.

Start by looking down into the intake & see if there is evidence of oil puddling. DRs don't last indefinitely.

You may be able to clean a sludged up CDR with Dawn and hot water.

I think I am going to try and clean it first. I went out to look at it and noticed the hose underneath it. It's in pretty rough shape and looks like someone has tried to repair it in the past. I am trying to find if this is available aftermarket or dealer now. I haven't had any luck so far today finding a picture of it or a part number to reference from. Here is the old hose that goes to the bottom side of the CDR.

You can use SAE J30R7 hose. Just need to get the correct diameter.

Check Rockauto. The CDR isn't available but the hoses might be.

I will probably have to end up fabbing something up if I can't find the OE part. I did come across the GM part number for the hose but it was discontinued years ago and no aftermarket available from what I see. I am also going to see if I can get the old CDR valve apart to clean it and if not I have found one that I can purchase. Hopefully either cleaning the old one or putting the new one will help with the oil consumption. Pic of the OE part.

If you know the part number you can check Vintage Parts. I found an air cleaner intake hose for my 83 C20 there. They cannot help you unless you have the part number. Prices are not cheap.
