How to adjust caster
We did a frame off resto on our 79 C30 and since it’s back on the road we aren’t happy wit the steering. Everything on the front suspension is new.
I understand camber and toe, but gotta admit caster has me a bit confused. To change camber, I add or remove shims to both control arm studs. To changec caster, add/remove to only one or remove from one add to other. Which one though? One article I found online said add to rear but to me if I add to the rear isn’t that pushing the ball joint forward more creating negative e caster? Someone tell me if this is correct- to add positive caster, either add shims to front stud or remove shims from back stud. |
Re: How to adjust caster
You are correct.
Caster adjustments are a bit limited. You might want to look up the caster mod on here. |
Re: How to adjust caster
Ya I know probably 2-3 degrees is all I can get.
So let me expand a bit on my issues Truck drifts to the right driving down the road. Pull into a driveway and back out, turning the wheel hard in either direction and the truck leaves black marks on the ground. Sounds like I can hear and feel the tire skidding a bit. Previously I only messed with toe in. We had paid an alignment shop but they said it wasn’t that bad. But I think they didn’t even check caster. Why I’m trying now |
