Yet another horn problem
 

Here ya go-66 Chevy ...

Relay good-power it up, case ground it, and then ground the black wire relay and it clicks and sends 12v to the green wire (horn) terminal.
Horn-send 12v directly to the terminal while mounted/grounded to rad support, it honks.
Black wire at column brass horn plate behind wheel has continuity to black wire out at the horn relay, no breaks there.
Horn button has continuity when checked between brass horn button bushing on back and steering wheel center when horn button is pushed.

So??? Can someone give me another test continuity or 12v or other to check? Shouldn’t test wiring between steering column shaft and brass horn ring make the horn honk? Should the steering column shaft be a ground? Or does it lose it through the rag joint? Yeah....I’ve been messing with this too long and my thinking may be fuzzy....

The column is bolted to the dash and that should make a ground all the way up.

If you put your test light clip on a 12v source you should be able to make it light everywhere the pointy end touches ground. Kinda hooking it up backwards

Steering column has no continuity ground above the rag joint...back to the laboratory.....

Sorry to hijack an old thread but I’m finding that the black horn wire on my ‘64 travels up the column and end terminal clips onto brass ring that sits above upper column bearing, so it’s constantly grounding on the steering shaft and causing the horn to honk.

I gotta have something installed wrong. I took my truck apart 4 years ago and am clearly missing something because it worked fine before resto.

Thanks Mongo that is a million times easier than using photobucket.

I’ll post some pics of what I’m talking about. You can see where the horn wire attaches to that brass ring that sits on the bearing. I am thinking now, maybe it is properly installed but grounding on the steering shaft because I don’t have the steering wheel installed to keep it centered?

Okay well it’s funny how much you can forget in 4 years...I looked at the steering wheel and realized there is a sleeve that keeps the bearing from grounding on the shaft. All good now, she only honks when I want her to.

I did clean that wheel up after this pic was taken.
