1962 GMC One Ton

Last week I posted about turning a C10 into a C20. While it looks like an easy project I now have a chance to rescue a 1962 GMC. The cab is in better shape and its different from everything else out there so I am hoping this leads to something cool. Before I pull the trigger Id like to confirm a few things that everyone else here probably already knows. Ive searched around and cant find many threads on converting 1 ton front suspension and engine swaps that dont also swap the old 4 spd out.

1. Will my 73 3/4 ton crossmember and suspension still bolt up to the 62 1 ton frame? I know it will require the crossmember swap because the truck has torsion bars now and I dont know condition of front suspension and may wait until its needed, but I dont want to plan a project I cant do.

2. The truck has a non running V6 which Im kind of excited about, I think the old engines are pretty cool. If the V6 has a terminal problem can I use the same trans with the small block I already have? I know I will need a bellhousing but did GMC use a different input shaft on the SM420 with the 305 V6?

Your '73 C20 front suspension will bolt up under your '62 C30. You might want to change the differential also. That '62 C30 likely has 4.57 gears and 5.14 gears were an option. Yes you can bolt up the SM420 to a small block with a bellhousing change.
