Losing my mind? Brake Reservior
2 Attachment(s)
I could have sworn the front/rear bowls were a different size on stock 71/72 disc brake systems (front larger, back smaller), but I was checking everything on my truck this past weekend and they're both the same size??? (Or maybe they just appear to be?)
Everything, lines, booster, brackets prop vale, entire front suspension and all were pulled off a 1971 truck out of a junkyard. It's time to replace a few things, including the MC, so now I'm confused on which MC I need? I'm running into the first pic (which is what mine looks like) where the reserviors appear to be the same, and the second pic, which is the type I'm used to where the front/back are different sizes for disc/drum. Was this a "power brake" thing? |

Edit, looking harder, it looks like the front bowl might be larger with the just the lid appearing to be equal, but the question would remain, why the difference? |
Re: Losing my mind? Brake Reservior
Earlier vs. later design methinks. The first pic is what my power disc/drum MC looks like.

Your first pic looks exactly like the one I just installed for my disk disk conversion
It's from a 80 Corvette Sorry about the rotation of pic Both sides are equal The drum drum master I replaced was also equal size only much smaller With a smaller piston |

This is my current set up that's been on the truck since 2002-ish. I guess it's right, just odd looking?

Re: Losing my mind? Brake Reservior
I just looked at my buddies '72 K20 with disc/drums and his looks just like your first picture.
I'm about to convert my '69 to disc/drum from drum/drum and was thinking the exact thing you were Redneck. All the masters I saw online were like your first pic too. And I remember the Disc/drum masters having a large and small reservoir. But I was working on a 78 Chevy and 74 Chevy in the past, so maybe that was the difference? So I'll go with the first style and call it good!! |
