nv4500 in 69 4wd
 

New here and hoping for some guidance! I purchased a 69 c10 4x4 that I am taking to the frame and working my way back up. I purchased a 550hp 421 from skip white performance and everyone tells me I need to go up to the nv-4500. Here is where it gets foggy for me... I can buy the tranny but what one do I need, transfer case along with any adapters? I was pointed to advance adapters and sent them a email but have not heard back. Anyone have any advice or a place to turn to?

Do a search on this site. There are several examples. The transfer case shifter mounting will be custom.

I used a Dodge NV4500 that had the input changed over to a GM and used the Dodge NP205 that bolted right to the 4500 and the whole setup came out less than 1" longer than the SM465/205 combo that it replaced. I used an Advanced Adapters manual clutch linkage bellhousing and their GM transfer case shifter mount.

The shifter mount will need bracing and I made a linkage for the shifter to shift rails connection out of 1/4" all-thread and rod ends.

This was the simplest way for me to get the setup I wanted with almost no modification.

With my lack of knowledge I would be happy to go the extra $ to have exactly what I need... I am a machinist by trade so I can make just about anything I need... but am clueless to what I need when it comes to this..

Here is how I replaced the SM465 in my '72 Dually with the GM NV4500.

That way you can use all of the stock clutch parts and you don't need the expensive adapter. I don't know anything about the 4x4 part of it because mine was a 2WD but you should be able to figure that out.

The sell a kit like I bought that has everything but a clutch and pressure plate for around $3K. I used a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch and I believe it was an 11". I used my bell crank and linkage and it even came with the spacers for the crossmember.

I'm pretty sure that was for a new, not reman tranny and a reman xfer case.
