Custom Grill

OK, I really don't like the job my FiL did with the grill on this truck, never have. It's a crate grill from a '71 or '72, with the ends cut off to accommodate the park/turn signal lamps. I don't know if there is a custom grill out there for a '70 that includes park/turn signal lamps in it. I can machine a billet grill if I have to, but before I run down that road, I'd like to see what people have for solutions. I actually would like it to be stock, but it's north of 7 bones for all the parts from a restoration parts supplier. Of course, it'll be about the same amount of money in my time, if I make my own. But sweat equity is free, when you're retired.

So, watcha got? Here's what it looks like, currently. Again, what I would really prefer is the stock setup.

I've thought about getting a simple led light on each side in between the fins might be cool then run a 67-70 smooth bumper. Pic just for representative purpose

I would paint the insert black and tent the lens. You could also purchase turn headlights with the signal in them

If I end up making a billet grill, this will probably be one thing I would do.

This would mean I would have to buy another grill, because of the holes chopped in the grill already.

What are "turn headlights"?

Keep 'em coming! We'll come up with something.

Oh, OK. So I could just make the billet grille (covering the headlights is not an option) and use these. They appear to be LED headlights. I've not seen these before. That could work (pending asking the wife- this truck has been in the family for 45 years, and she's kind of touchy about too big a change).

It's hard to go wrong with a stock 69-70 grille assembly. New ones are quite pricey though. I would think you could look around and find a used one in fair shape and or smooth it up and paint or powder coat it in a nice shade of aluminum. I'm in a similar spot as my 69 grille was mashed on the outside edge around the headlight area. I have managed to put it mostly back in place but it's no where close to being ready to polish. I'm not big on painted grille surrounds but think it might look ok with the right shade of paint.
You're in a spot as that will always be her dad's truck. ;)
