wiper motor issues

wiper was working normally. pulled it, replaced seal, mounting bushings and ground reinstalled and worked normal without linkage connected. Motor parked in correct position. Buttoned up everything and go to use them and nothing. I have to grab the shaft and turn manually to start the rotation. It will turn a complete revolution and stop. any ideas? It is a square motor 3 lead.

Did you remove the rotating arm from the motor when you had it out?

Re: wiper motor issues

Sounds like the wipers are trying to park at the end of each pass, which is usually a bad ground somewhere. Wiper motors are "switched ground". You supply a ground via the switch and that will start one wipe. They get ground from themselves internally during the wipe so that if you turn off the switch, they finish that wipe.

Then when they get back to the bottom if the switch is providing ground they go for another pass.

So it sounds to me like the ground path from the switch itself isn't working. Just a guess though!

never removed the arm when out. I had seen another thread about making sure it was in place prior to applying power to ensure it would not stop short on its final sweep.
I was thinking ground issue as well. Where would the ground wires be located?

There is an integral ground strap on one of the round rubber mounting grommets, did you get that back in place?

ground strap was reinstalled. I have not been able to check today but have an idea of the issue. I appreciated the responses.

davepl...I think you got it. Took the switch out, cleaned mounting location on back of dash and switch itself, remounted and voila. wipers functioning again. Thanks so much guys.
I never would have known about the switched ground issue.
