Was a 4 cylinder ever an option in the C10-C30 truck for 60-66? years? What is the 153 c.u.? Its on our kick panel tag.

Not on the truck, but on the van, and that gets the same kick panel data plate.

Hoping to find someone that has info on this. Saw a FB post and the guy says his friend has documentation on it being ordered custom for the truck. Was that even possible? How would it bolt up to our chassis? I guess they came in Novas, so it can be mated to a 3 speed.

I would say you could order it COPO. We've heard of 348cu.in. in a C30 special order for RV's , so why not a 153?
Have lot's of literature but I don't know how the special orders were done.
Not specifically related , I jumped started an 1988 Chevrolet pickup with a four cylinder. Really tiny little motor. She said it was a fluke order, customer didn't want the truck , so she bought it.

Yeah i wouldnt be surprised it could be ordered thru COPO. I was more skeptical because some people take the word of others and thats how misinformation gets spread...fake news anyone? Haha

I was under the impresition that they could be had in 62 or 63 pickups. I thought I saw 62 63 pickup brochure that listed, I have at least 3 of them left. Years ago I had a 66 nova SS with a 230 and powerglide and decided it would be more fun with 153 iron duke and Muncie M21, and it was. Everything bolts up just like a 194, 230, 250, and 292 mounts and flywheel and bellhousing. Can provide you with lots of pics of the motors but have not seen any pics of one in a pickup. I thought I was the only one that considered these cool little motors, am considering putting one of mine in a 65 half ton I have but its long and I'd rather it was short and the truck is powerglide and I would use SM 420.

Thanks for the info and pics. Pretty much shows what i thought. I was reading the Iron Duke was a 151cu from Pontiac.

I believe they were calling the 153 iron duke before the 151 Pontiac ever came out. Does anyone have 1962 or 63 C10 brochure, I thought the 153 showed up there. All I have is 1964 and up.

When I was about 18 I had a 1962 nova hard top, it had the Iron duke with a powerglide. Most people don't know it but some of the old mercury boat outdrives had 153s in them and the early postal jeeps had them too. Later on ford started building postal jeeps but they had ford sixs in them, you can tell the difference by the grill because it sticks out farther forward. Anyway they are all about gone now, hard to find.

Yes! The 153 4 cylinder was an option in the C-10 in the late 60's-mid 70's. In Brazil though, not here.

The Chevy 153 was a version of the Chevy straight 6, and shared a lot of parts with them. The engine is still manufactured in a 3.0L version for marine and industrial use. It's marketed through Power Solutions International. Mercury Marine also sells it for marine applications.

A common misconception is that the 153 is the same engine as the later Pontiac produced 2.5L "iron Duke'. It isn't, though the two engines are similar in many respects. Basically, the Pontiac 'Iron Duke' is something like a Chevy 153 with a Pontiac V-8 cross-flow head.
