Rear Shock Relocation Bracket (my version)
4 Attachment(s)
Thought I would share my latest project on my 67 step side rear shock brackets . I saw these first back in 2011 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=451200 but I had an Idea that I could make them more appealing to the eye and with less material. ;)

Re: Rear Shock Relocation Bracket (my version)
The first picture is the original plans that I borrowed . Saved it in the paint program , modified it to my liking and printed up my plans. The best part is that I was able to use a piece of scrap 2" X 2" tubing. Now all I have to do is drill out the rivets and mount them up.

Attachment 1799040Thanks, still working on steering gear, had to order another, and another, they tell me at tech service that that's the right part in the box but I have two cores that have a smaller shaft on the input . So I ordered a bigger steering coupler to get it put back together next week( I hope ).

Well the truck is back together. including my shifter . I had to get rid of the mustang shifter that had been given to me eleven years ago. Now I have Hurst Pro-matic 2 ratchet shifter built into the floor. Here's a link to my shifter box build. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=767127

My 1st mistake was to not get my own measurement for the mount to frame. It should have been 6" not 5-5/8".(blue arrow in the 1st pic and yellow in the 3rd) My 2nd mistake was to drill my shock mounting holes at 1" not 3/4" from the end (yellow arrow) which caused the head of the mounting bolt to get in the way of the shock . So I grabbed a 7/16" bumper bolt to mount the rear of the bracket to the frame.

Re: Rear Shock Relocation Bracket (my version)
Good job! I really like that you removed the bed floor so you could get us good photos of your installation. A couple of questions if you would be so kind. How close does the shock body come to the axle housing? And you did use the stock lowers?
Thanks again. |

Thanks. I have a 1/2" sheet of plywood (held down with a 5/16" nut and flat washer on stud in center of the bed ,see arrow) for my bed floor for now, so it's easy access. The lower shock body has a good 1/2" clearance to the axle . I have not changed my lower brackets yet. I'm thinking about using a 1" lowering block on the rear and I want to replace the u-bolts either way.

I got things cleaned up a bit, touched up my bed liner and put my plywood back in for now.

I took out the rest of the bed wood (not much left) and metal strips and tucked the plywood under the angle strips. It looks a little better that way.

I have got my wood cut, placement chosen and now the sanding . Kinda like snowball effect, I keep finding things to work on.
