Front brake drum rivet removal
On my 68 the drums were still riveted to the hub. I ground off the end on the drum side and got the drum off. How do I get the rest of the rivet out. I have been pounding on them with a drift with no luck. I tried drilling one out, but a battery powered drill just isn't cutting it. I am thinking some heat might help. How have others done this? Thanks!

leave them in, no big deal

Re: Front brake drum rivet removal
I just left them in on mine, but I think it's too late for you to do that since you've been pounding on them. If you can get a grinder in there, you can grind it smooth and then usually the remaining portion of the rivet is pretty easy to knock out with a punch.

Re: Front brake drum rivet removal
Thank you both for the help. After the face palm moment I tried the new drums and the do fit. They are apparently particular about their orientation now but that's fine. I really only tried drilling one out so I just cleaned it up a bit and it seems to work fine. Put the new bearing races in so now it's ready to reassemble. Thanks for the help!
