where to get CHEAP longblock
 

anybody know of some places that sell cheap 350 longblocks. like rebuilt ones or the like?

Theres always the goodwrech longblock. 1300 bucks or something I believe.

But any cheapo parts store should carry em.

hmm i was hoping more in the 750 range. i think i'll probly just find a used but running one

not selling the 408. not yet anyways. probly gonna put a stock motor in the truck and sell the truck. not sure yet though.

Just as well sell the 408 too. Or else sell it with the truck. I know if you don't have anywhere to store the truck, you sure don't have anywhere to store a engine. :)

$350.00 for a rebuilt 350. I feel sorry for the person who buys the truck then.

that why a i have a shop so i can get good price on everything . there is a 1 year wart on it . he does not ship out of state . my brother has one in truck for the last 40,000 miles and no problems

Mike, I paid $400 for my freshly rebuilt 355. The thing lasted 5 years in my truck (I sold it to a friend to finance my 454, but it is still runnin strong) and never once even leaked or burned a drop of oil. For performance's sake, it had two different cams, one additional set of rockers, two additional intakes, and I upgraded the heads once. It also went to the 1/4 mile track 75 miles away, raced it 13 times that day, and drove it home. I also had it in two burn-out contest at the Car Craft Summer Nationals, and it saw the other side of 100 a few times. :) :D

Good deals can be had, but you still have to be very careful and be able to tell if it is TOO good of a deal.

i haven't made up my mind yet. but i am leaning towards selling it. i think i will come out alot better if i scrounge up a rebuilt 350 in there for around 750 total and pull my 408 out. i don't think i will get much more for my truck with the motor in there so i might as well do this and not lose my ass on a $6K motor. i can probly sotre the motor in a corner of my buddies shop until i figure out if i want to sell it or hagn on to it for another project down the road. even if i sell it seperate i'll come out more $$$ than if i sold the truck with it in there. but none of this is for sure yet. gonna ponder it until the end of the year.

6 K huh. Now the picture is getting clearer. I thought this may be the case, but now I know for sure where you went wrong. You went over board. It's something real easy to do and hard to stop. From my remembering, you were much more satisfied with the truck when you had the 355 in it. Now that you have the killer engine in there, there is more you need to do to be able to fully enjoy it.

Hey, it's a never ending process when you start modding any vehicle. Every thing you do, requires you to do something else to get the full potential out of it. How do you think us dummies end up with 20 to 25 grand in these things? It's like an addiction. Short and simple. An addiction.

A little tidbit about me. Long ago, very long ago now. Back when I was in my early 20's, I had the fever just as bad as it is now. Only thing was then, I was stupid. You folks will probably not believe this and I don't sometimes, but I married the first time when I was 17. Yes, 17. See I said I was stupid. Anyway, my first son was born when I was only 18. Talk about having to grow up in a hurry. :)

I wanted to have fast cars too. But it was something that wasn't in the cards. I had no money for living, much less hotrods. I tried but it was not worth the effort. I finally gave up on the dreams I had. Until, just a fews years ago, I decided to once again get back into my long lost hobby of modding on vehicles. It just so happened my poor truck was the vehicle. :D

So the moral of this story is put it on the back burner. Don't ever totally forget about it. One day when you are financially able, you can do it again, and even better. Right now the most important thing in your life is your degree and getting a good job. All this crap with trucks is just a benefit of life. It's not your life and shouldn't be. This stuff is for playing and fun stuff. Life is the real thing you should be concerned with.

yeah i think you know the situation i'm in well mike. and i do have about as much in the motor as i have in the rest of the truck. 6 is just an estimate could be a little less, but 5k 6k whats the difference, right. lol. and where i'm at right now with it there are so many things i want to do to the truck, its a never ending list. and as long as i have it i won't be happy unless im' doing stuff on that list. my first year in school i had a pretty good income with not many expenses, cause the 'rents were helping me out with school bills. but now i'm pretty much on my own as far as school bills and everything goes, and i really don't have the income to support finishing this truck the way i want it to be. and i'm just now realizing all this. and i think its better for me to cut my losses now than wait another year when i have 2 or 3 more grand in it that i'm not going to get out. thats life i guess:)

Autozone sells them for 400-600 w/ warranty.

Sorry to hear your dillema. I had a real nice 98 Honda Valkyrie and was living in an apt while my house was being built. Needless to say as much as me and my wife loved that bike we sold it cheap so we didn't have to watch it rust outside in the rain. I have a garage now and boy do I pump cash in my truck.....don't ask, but the point is- You will have the opportunity to do it again someday and you will know exactly how you want to build it:)

I wouldn't put an AZ rebuild in a vehicle I was selling to my worst enemy. I have pulled a few too many of them apart, witnessing their totaly shoddy, incompetent "rebuilding" practices. You're better off getting a "well worn" 350 from a bone yard and doing the "rings and bearings" thing yourself. You may come up cheaper and at least then you won't have to worry about the trucks new owner coming back in two weeks screaming because that wonderful rebuild is scattered down the Interstate. :D

Also, on the same note, I see a lot of younger, less experienced enthusiasts inquiring about these "el cheapo" rebuilds (whether from AZ, Kragen or whoever). Think about it this way. Just because these engines are cheap, it doesn't mean the retailers don't still make a healthy proffit margin off of them. How does this happen? They use sub-standard "new" parts, combined with poor quality machine work (in some cases NO machine work:rolleyes: ) and some that i've seen, appeared as if they were thrown together by a 1st year comm. college kid, with rod fillets facing in the WRONG DIRECTION, pistons installed backwards (notch facing rearwards), incredibly under/over torqued, different head casting numbers, etc. I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from trying to get a bargain, just to make them try to understand why they're getting one. True bargains can be found, but they are VERY few and far between.

well the guys i'm talking about don't do work like that . there only two guys that work there . my buddy dose all the put together by his self . the other guy dose the cleaning and tear dnow . if it come back it because the ibstaller did something wriong .

they do not adj right valve right and falt the cam or run the carb way to rich and wash the ring out . or as one guy did ran it hot right off the bat . did nop think it would hurt it if he ran it with out the water pump on . i seen alot of thing happen to a motor. i'm only speaking for this one shop . i know some of the the other shop do shady thing to make a $$$ around here we have place called shipps they do what u r taking about .
