No Battery Voltage To Cab
 
Started truck yesterday and ran fine. Shut it off. Went to restart no response,totally dead. Played with all wires at firewall ,battery, regulator. ignition switch, ect. with no response. Just about to give up tried one more time and it came back to life. Drove home and shut it down. Started a couple of times then nothing.
My first thought was the ignition switch is bad however would that effect the power to the lights as they don't come on.
My Battery and cables are new so I rule them out.

The ground from battery to chassis is good.

Little more info needed.
By dead you mean no power to anything or just won't turn over?
Did you have headlights, domelight etc?
If no power to anything in cab surely it's a ground issue.
Remember your cab floats on rubber cab mount bushings so there is a ground strap under the cab that grounds the cab to the frame.

Ok problem resolved. Turns out I had a faulty pos. cable. Kinda odd as it is only a couple of months old. Gonna take receipt and throw it down on the parts counter.

Don't know if you had the small junction block off of the inner fender by the battery and cleaned up the stud, nut and lock washer or not. The 12ga hot wire for all of the electrical power except for the starter comes from that, runs across the top of the core support, and ties into two other 12ga red wires. One of the 12ga red wires runs from that to the firewall bulkhead connector and feeds the interior electrical.

Below the diagrams in the first two posts you will find links to larger versions that you can save to your computer and print out.

There are a lot more ground straps needed than just the battery to the chassis (i presume you mean engine). If the frame and cab are not grounded, that might cause the problem you are seeing. Read through this post....

OK I see you got it resolved by the time I posted above. Good deal! I will go ahead and leave my post up in case someone else has a similar problem and needs the links to help them out. It still might not hurt to read the ground strap thread though, it's pretty important.

The junction block on the fender was my problem when I first bought my truck. I drove it home and shut it off. I walked up to the house and went back 5 minutes later and it would not even click or turn the engine over. Then 1 hour later I started it right up. The next day it done it again and I wiggled the wire on that junction block and it fired right up.
I am glad you found your problem.
Wiring can be a nightmare sometimes.

I read thru most of it.
In post #302 there is a very clear Full diagram.
That will help when I rewire my truck.

No problem. I remembered that the wiper wiring was wrong in the original diagrams. Here is what is wrong:

The wiper motor wiring is incorrect on the above diagrams.
The single connector is 1 black wire that goes to the wiper switch.
The yellow power wire goes to one connector (washer) and then jumpers to the wiper motor.

I don't recall if it was corrected on the files that were posted later or not.
