56 cab on camaro clip

Hey guys I finally got one of my cabs on the camaro clip frame I’ve been going back and forth with. Not sure what frame to use. What do you guys think of how it looks. Sits really really high for some reason

Re: 56 cab on camaro clip

There is two popular ways to install the clip. Was the clip blended into the frame or was the stock frame stacked on top of the clip? The blended clip sits a little higher and some guys run 2" drop spindles to bring it back down. Also the weight of the engine, bumper, hood, ect usually brings it down an inch or two.

Take a look at my thread to see ride height with a stacked camaro clip frame.

Mine is stacked also

Re: 56 cab on camaro clip

I have some 1" all thread going through the shock holes to hold the spring compressed. It should sit the same as mine once the weight of the bumper, engine, ect are in place.

Re: 56 cab on camaro clip

That is not TOO HIGH with no engine or trans in the truck. You have to have the weigh on the springs or do as 59 Chevy said and use all thread or some sort of static height spacer rather than the springs to see the final height without everything being on the truck.

Slide under the front with a tape measure and measure from the bottom of the crossmember to the shop floor. A Camaro at stock height sits real close to 6 inches to six inches from the bottom of the crossmember to the shop floor. That should show you how much you can expect it to drop with the stock springs.

These are the measurements I have now. I will have to get the other ones

Measure at the middle of the crossmember. Those photos don't say much except the install of the subframe may be rather suspect from seeing that that they wacked it off with a torch and didn't bother to clean up the cuts the rest of it may have the same hack job.

Re: 56 cab on camaro clip

I have little experience with this, but did one and I looked at the Camaro's weight and the truck were super close. I measured the distance between the rubber bumper on the lower control arm on a stock Camaro and put "all thread" in place of the shock and tightened it up bring sub frame down until that distance was the same from the rubber bumper to the control arm. Then set the frame on jack stands at the height I wanted it and simply welded the sub frame to the frame at that height.

Also, checked the upper control arm shafts angle using an angle finder and put that exactly the same so it would align properly.

Just seems way off to me. I’ll get the measurements when I get back over there. I just can’t see a motor lowering the truck that much. Cuz those are 20 inch wheels. So when I put the 15’s on it’s going to have to come down even more

I think the outside diameter on the 15's may be as much or more than those 22's with rubber bands on them!

As I remember it was VERY little distance between the rubber bumper on the control arm and the frame. I am thinking it was something like one inch.

Mine is done even at frame height, 18" wheels and tires, 27" tall same as stock.

I took the measurement today. From the crossmember to the ground is about 11-12 inches. And I was just messing around with the front fenders and it’s off by a few inches

add the: motor, trans, interior, doors, hood, glass, radio to get it down
those rubber band tires wouldn't last a week here in michigan

my truk had the suspension fully extended for a long time
with the truk at the top pic point i could jump on the front frame with no spring compression
bottom pic shows ready to drive, came down 3 inches more after the bumper, side glass and interior

Re: 56 cab on camaro clip

Those wheels are just rollers that came with the frame. They are junk. The fenders aren’t even close to lining up. Needs a lot of adjustments and fabricating some stuff. I’m staying with my dropped axle. If I don’t like that I’ll put in a aftermarket mustang 2

Good thinking!

This was mine sitting on a stacked Camaro clip. The tires are 235/60R15s and when the truck was sitting in the grass, they were aired up, not flat or in holes. This is the best example of what I had at the time.

Here's mine mocked up. Stacked camaro clip with all thread in the shock holes. Frame is sitting on the rear end right now ( I plan on a step notch and a 4-link ) but this is my intended ride height.

Re: 56 cab on camaro clip

Those both look good. Mine is far from that. Way too high on my suspension for my liking

Re: 56 cab on camaro clip

Yeah cause you don't got the weight of the motor trans radiator fluids etc etc. Like we all said get a threaded bolt tighten it to hold the springs down. Or pull the springs and use the long ass bolt to hold front end up

I will see what I can come up with. Thank you
