Starter button question
 

I know it sounds illogical but...

If I wanted to add a starter button without changing the key ignition how would I wire it? One that would simply work when the key is turned on, and turning the key also still works.

All that happens when the key is in the start position is the solenoid is powered. The simplest way would be to put a switch in parallel to the existing momentary (start) switch, but that would most likely try to crank with the ignition switch off.
A somewhat better solution would be a relay controlled by the ignition switch so that contacts close when the key is in the run position. Then you put your switch in series with those contacts.
Be aware that the wire to the solenoid is 12 AWG (IIRC) and carries some current.

I have a button push start on my truck in place of my cigarette lighter. I can check the wire but i believe it is the purple wire on the neutral safety switch. Disconnect that wire. Cut that wire and run it to the push button. This way you still have to have your key on but will not crank without the push button. Cool little feature

Isn't that just a kill switch? Seems like you would have to turn the key AND press the button to start?

You probably want the ignition switched to the ON position and not the ACC position before you allow the starter to crank... so it doesn't crank with the key out of the ignition and doesn't crank with the key turned backwards to ACC.
You also don't want to bypass the neutral safety switch.

Tee into the CRANK wire between the ignition switch and the neutral-safety/clutch-pedal switch and run that wire to one terminal on your button.
The other terminal of the button needs to be connected to an ignition source that's powered when the key is turned to ON and not powered with the key turned to ACC.

That way the young'uns can't push the button with the stick in 1 and drive the truck with the starter... Yes. My cousin and I did just that with a 63 Dodge pickup. Got our backsides tanned too.

I cut i think it’s the purple wire from the ignition to the neutral safety switch. Ran that to the push start button. So you have to have the keys in and on. Then i open my ashtray and push the button. Located where the lighter was. Little anti theft devise. So i do not bypass the neutral switch

Ok, so I Tee into the PURPLE wire on one side and into a switched 12V source on the other side of the button? And then the Button will work with key turned on, AND if I turn the key it will crank as well? (Just making sure... I am a bit DIM when it comes to electrical stuff...)

The wire colors depend on the model year. They are not all the same.
Purple is usually the wire from the neutral safety switch to the starter.
You want the wire between the neutral safety switch and the ignition switch.
