Looks like the 84 GMC C1500 Sierra Classic I have has Silverado equipment?

Not really.

YE9 is the highest level of trim content regardless of the nameplate conversion (X88 = Chevy; Z88= GMC).

The assembly plants had some leeway in the way they chose to populate the noun names on the SPIDs, either for convenience or to help streamline the incredibly crazy amount of proliferation within full size truck. It's the RPO code that matters.

My 84 is a Scottsdale, my BIL bought it new. It is equipped as a Silverado, 4 head lights, pw/pl everything except for rubber mat instead of carpet. The only other difference is a black textured panel, no pull handles on doors. He ordered it, and was told that you could not get Silverado with rubber mat.

This is absolutely correct. All of the RPO codes cross and interchange between Chevy and GMC. It's the RPO code, not necessarily the description that matters.

It may be "equipped as a Silverado" (aka YE9) but it is still the Scottsdale (Z62) trim level. Z62 will appear on the SPID and in the documentation.

It is correct that you could not get the vinyl flooring with the Silverado. That is why I always ordered a Scottsdale with the vinyl flooring, manual windows and locks, but got the V22 grille upgrade with B85 chrome side moldings.

Viola. Instant "Silverado" exterior appearance, with vinyl flooring and other more basic content.

BTW - I just remembered we used to have a saying:

"At Chevy, you don't make a mistake; you make a million of 'em".

Pretty cool how much you could customize a car/truck back then. It sounds like you could build a car/truck anyway you wanted to. I have not ever ordered a new pickup - but is that still possible? I would think now you have to go with the total package?
