1968 GMC C10 - Ben's got new steel
My ex girlfriend named my truck Ben. (like the clock).
She's gone, the name stuck. Needs new cab floor and the bed floor too, bunch of other bits. I don't have a garage, and live deep enough in town that my neighbors will likely complain at some point! :waah: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/ze...A=w573-h322-no START DATE June 1 2018. Needed a mobile platform, to move things. 8 x 8 deck with some wheels. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/xg...w1352-h1014-no Wasted the previous summer building a gantry crane from scratch... more money and effort than it was worth. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/CC...w1352-h1014-no |

Brave man with serious skills! What are your plans for suspension and drivetrain? How about color choices? I'm in for the ride, keep us loaded with pics please;)

Re: 1968 GMC C10 - Ben's got new steel
This year, I just aim to have all the metal work in order. Get it painted. I am not looking for Shiney. I really want the paint to looking the same (cab roof light, red body). I would even prefer to have it dull than Shiney.
I have a square body disk front end, but need to R&R that before I swap it. I looks reasonably easy to do tho. Next year I figure I'm gonna look for a motor. Likely a 5.3 from a rusted out 2000 ish truck. I would love to find a T5 too. Right now... Just licking my wounds from grinding... |

Picking away... slowly.
No garage really sucks. rust near the blower/fender mount area. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pd...g=w883-h662-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/wP...w=w883-h662-no https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/R3...w=w883-h662-no |

oh and... a measure of work done.
How many cut disks... have died in the name of Ben's metal... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/82...g=w883-h662-no |
Re: 1968 GMC C10 - Ben's got new steel
Royally shagged up the passenger side cab corner. I lined up the corrugation in the rear, and could not for the life of me get the side to line up properly. I tired to cut and stretch it, but I am going to just order a new piece and splice it in.

Re: 1968 GMC C10 - Ben's got new steel
Job well done!!!
Carry on!!! Are those patches on the frame??? |
Re: 1968 GMC C10 - Ben's got new steel
Yeah, there are some bad areas toward the springs on the rear frame.
I have seen the No Limits frame kit.. and figure that is ultra easy to get built at one of the local fab houses. I am trying not to let my list of things to fix grow while I am in the midst of the cab rebuild. I do not have a garage, so it has to be driving in the fall so I can take it back to where I store it for the winter. |

Looks like you are doing a great job!

Re: 1968 GMC C10 - Ben's got new steel
Wow. You do good work, and considering you don't have a garage to work in I give you props man. Great job.

Re: 1968 GMC C10 - Ben's got new steel
So I have a question about some panel missalignment.
How would you guys address this? I was thinking of making a relief cut on the cab corner, and moving it then rewelding. Suggestions? https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Oc...w1779-h1334-no |
