Tires to wide

So I have a set of 275 wide tires in the rear that bairly rub on my 62 stepside with a 5 inch drop. They don’t rub on bumps or on regular turns but they do if I make a right hand turn in or out of driveway. Something about how it leans when one tire is hier than the other. I can’t flair the fender since it has just been painted and the last time I tried to flair the fender one of them buckled. So my question is should I get 255’s or 245’s. The 245’s will give me a little more than .5 inches of clearence on each side of the tire. If I get a set of 255’s it will give me around 1/3 an inch on each side. Or is there something else I can do that will help? I have a front sway bar but not a rear. Will that help?

What BS do you have on your wheels? Tires might be cheaper than a New Wheel but a 275/60-15 should fit with the right wheel.

I think it is the standard backspace for a 8 inch wheel. I is 4.5 if my memory serves me correctly there is just about an even space between the bed side and the tire and the fender and the tire. It is a pretty tall tire. 275/55R17’s. I used to have 275\60R15’s and they fit fine.

Re: Tires to wide

The back story is that I got the larger tire and rolled the fender to get them to fit. When I had the truck painted the bed was completely disassembled and the feders were unrolled in order to fix a crease that I got when I originally rolled it. Now the tire doesn’t fit. It was not the mettle guys fault. It was one of those splits disisions that I made with his recommendation.

Look the tire you have up on a place like tire rack and see what the section width and tread width are. The you can look at other tires and see what the difference is. One problem you may face is when you go smaller on the tire and stay with the 8" wheel it may push the advertised section width out a bit.
