Known Header Clearance
So my LQ4 truck headers (just and I mean just) hit the upper frame rail.
I dont want to cut and reweld the angle on headers or cut the frame. Heres a link showing measurement. https://i.imgur.com/hp76GHKl.jpg Anyone know of any decent "huggers" that have better clearance than this - especially at the flange position or near there (eg lower ) . Basically less than 4.5" furtherest point from header mount (inside) where it attached to head itself. |
Re: Known Header Clearance
I used speed engineering ls swap shorty headers, all kinds of room and there cheep! Might not be the best for performance, but they fit great.

Any chance you can grab a measurement. :uhmk: |
Re: Known Header Clearance
I can grab a measurement this weekend, it's in a 71 c10
|
Re: Known Header Clearance
Thanks.
I ran out just now to buy some 2000 C5 headers - but they measured 5" also .... so basically the same as my truck headers. Looked like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/C5-Corvette...-/222695867830 Didnt think anything looked like it would have more clearance than that - but its really not the header tubes themselves rather the flange. So no beuno. |
Re: Known Header Clearance
Thin the two speed engineering options are
https://www.ebay.com/itm/C-10-LS-Che...sid=m570.l1313 or these that go straight down - so less header tube - but thats a larger flange https://www.ebay.com/itm/LS-Universa...itleDesc=0%7C0 |
Re: Known Header Clearance
I'm running the top ones. I'll grab measurement when I get back to the truck this weekend.

Re: Known Header Clearance
Holley manifolds. Summitracing and CPP also have knock off versions
|
Re: Known Header Clearance
gen V Camaro may fit with no cutting, if you want a stock manifold that fits.
2010+ I can get a measurement for you |
Re: Known Header Clearance
2 Attachment(s)
pics here...this is 2010 Camaro manifold mounted on my 71.
similar to your measurement, from head flange to outer point is just over 3 1/4" Maybe 3.5" the flange is 2 bolt vs. 3, which doesn't stick out so far. |
Re: Known Header Clearance
^^^ thanks for measurements and ideas on he GTO headers
I managed to get a set of 2005 GTO manifolds like these for 0.99c and $25 shipping on ebay. Will see if they actually arrive given the low price as well as fiment and clearance of the steering linkage/frame and trans. Hoping should be good. :metal: |

Re: Known Header Clearance
Dang it - that probably explains why they were so cheap.
For some reason I thought they would be the same (headers) or pretty similar based on manifold pics. I will be fabricating my own motor mounts most likely - so not sure if that will help ....... but otherwise Ill smack myself in the head in the head an look for some Camaro headers. Thanks guys !! |
Re: Known Header Clearance
yes the GTO are totally different. I had several sets of those, scrapped them a while back.
the 2010 to 2015 camaro is what I have pictured. the camaro has that 2 bolt flange so it doesn't protrude out as far as the 3 bolt flange stuff. |
Re: Known Header Clearance
I also tried a set of GTO manifolds with no success.

Re: Known Header Clearance
Thanks guys
Away in mountains with not much wifi access. Well - plenty of access just not by computer much. Ill post picks wehen I get back in about 7-8 days of the headers (GTO). If they dont work as it sounds like they wont ...... Ill check out trying to source Camaro headres for teh clearance - else go with the turn down ram style --- just due to not finding many offerings for camaro headers. Or at least a price ID like to pay :) https://www.ebay.com/itm/LS3-V8-EXHA...itleDesc=0%7C0 |
Re: Known Header Clearance
I have a spare set of gen 5 Camaro manifolds I can sell. Going rate on the Camaro forums is $75-100+shipping. You can PM me when you're looking and I can send pics if you want.
