To cut or Not
1 Attachment(s)
I'm installing a Vintage Air unit and cant decide if I want to cut the dash and install as original or go the easy way and use the under dash pods. I prefer the original look but the under dash pods are much simpler. Can anyone share their experience?
Thanks! |
Re: To cut or Not
I have one of each, '71 GMC has the pods,'72 Blazer is fac. A/C. As far as ease of installation, I'm old and lazy... but the pods look OK to me. Functionally, the GMC cools pretty good, never use Blazer's A/C 'cause I don't put the top on.

Re: To cut or Not
Do the extra work and cut the dash. It’s a cleaner look.

Decision made, I'm breaking out the templates and cutting the dash. Thanks everyone!

Don't curse when you run the hoses and you will need a new glove box. Good luck and have a good one eh.

Re: To cut or Not
Those pods look period from the pictures. Me, Id run those first and if it just wasn't to your liking down the road you could always cut the holes. Yes I see Im a little too late lol.

Re: To cut or Not
Thanks again! As anyone had a aftermarket kit installed by a shop vs doing it themselves? I'm considering that as an option. Just curious about the cost. I know it can't be cheap.

Re: To cut or Not
I'd be OK with the under-dash stuff because a cut dash isn't the same is it? Maybe I just saw one that was done wrong, but it looked markedly "different" than a factory AC dash.
Or are they actually the same other than the holes? |

I went ahead and cut my dash. I also used the stock left/right vents instead of the VA smaller vents.
It was a bit nerve racking, but I think it turned out great. Also, I installed one of those double speakers in the dash so I could not use the VA center vent. I had to use a stock center vent with the block off plug on the left side. Let me know if you need any advice. |
