Where does this shift lever bushing go?

69 C10 with Automatic. I am replacing my rusty shift lever, and read on here that I need a new bushing to take the slop out of the lever. I received the new lever and bushing, but can't tell for sure where the bushing goes. I got the white cone shaped nylon bushing shown in the first pic below. Does it slip over the 'pointy end' of the lever (2nd picture below, looks like I need to heat it to get it to slip over the ball)? Or does the pin that holds the lever go thru this bushing somehow?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Where does this shift lever bushing go?

Hi,
I installed the bushing in my column just like in the bottom photo of your post. I applied a liberal amount of red grease inside and outside of the bushing and sprayed lubricant inside of the column and worked the gear selector up and down. I also lubed the mechanicals of the column and selector assembly under the hood. My truck was missing the bushing on the bottom of the adjusting rod where it links up with the bellcrank that hooks into the selector arm on the trans. After You get everything working smoothly again you may have to adjust the pinch bolt adjusting arm to line up your indicator inside the cab on the column as I had to do on my truck.

Hi
The pinch bolt is on the gear selector arm on the column in the engine compartment by the firewall. Loosen the nut to allow the linkage rod to move and adjust the linkage to line up the selector indicator.
