How much Dynamat do I need?

Hey forum,

I'm definitely going to install some Dynamat in my Cab (1970 C10), but I have no idea how much sq.ft. to buy. Also, any tips when installing or where to install (aside from the floor), would be appreciated.

Cheers,
A

I bought two of the 36 square feet kits for my truck and I used almost all of it, I put two layers on most of the floor. I did the firewall where I removed the felt blanket, and I did inside of my metal inner door panels. I did not take the gas tank out so I didn't do any in the area where the tank is.

Some people just put a few strips on the larger flat areas of the floor pan, but I think if you want it super quiet in the cab it needs to be completely covered.

We even applied some inside the door cavities and the back of the cab interior.

I ordered a knock-off off amazon called noico, came with 36 sq ft. Did the floor and part of the firewall, and some day will throw some pieces in the door panels. Made a pretty big difference already. Happy with how well it worked vs price. If youve got money invested in your truck I would go all out and double the order, cover it all

I used a similar product from NVX. It's as thick as Dynamat, however it cost a lot less. I got some free with my NVX amplifier, and bought I think 2 trunk kits. I lined the floor as high in the front as I could go, the floor, where the tank was, one sheet on the inside of the doors, and the back of the kick panel speaker housings. I had about 3 sheets left over.

It is an excellent product.

Do some reading here. https://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/
You’ll find out there is no need to have 100% coverage with Dynomat. You need mass loaded vinyl and closed foam cell to really quiet things down. Dynomat stops resonance, it doesn’t block sound. MLV blocks sound.
