Full wheel covers (hubcaps) anyone?
Id like to see who is running full wheel covers on your trucks, you know, the ones that cover the entire wheel not just the lug nut area. All makes, all styles. Especially 4x4's, you don't see many of those.

I can show pictures, not mine. But just 'wheelcovers' says it all. 'Full wheelcovers' is redundant because all wheel covers are full, they 'cover' the 'wheel'. People include everything under 'hubcap', even 'center caps' which are prominent now. For convenience places that sell this stuff are 'hubcap' businesses. They might also sell 'trim rings' under that name. But the exact meaning of 'hubcap' is the small cap that only covers the inner part of the wheel, aka dog dish, poverty, all are 'caps' not 'covers' and they 'cap' the 'hub'.
Anyway, I was always a performance/hot rodder guy, so wheelcovers were never my thing. Didn't even like Moon discs. But the appreciation of these as being from another time, me maturing (maybe), and liking the many approaches to these trucks, has allowed them to grow on me. But for me, gotta have the whitewalls. I don't remember ever seeing them w/o back in the day. Almost absolutely, with cars or trucks, I remember it was hubcaps & blackwalls or wheelcovers & whitewalls. Whitewalls cost extra and back then economic models were actually very popular. Pictures? You wanted pictures? Yes I realize I was very redundant, sometimes you need to be lol. The show your steel wheels thread somehow ended up with pictures of all wheels made of some type of metal, so pretty much every wheel lol.

I know I probably came off as a wad. It just doesn't matter anymore  Steelies? My hand truck is on steelies :metal:
Not the best shot, but here's a blackwall shot. My buddy had this truck to sell that came with 8 chrome saw blades or modulars and he popped the wheelcovers on. I like the wide track road hugger look but still stock looking. The chrome at the edge of wheel between wheelcover and tire is a cool accent. Basically puts the wheelcover right up to the black. Although I'm a big fan of the red rim showing. |

Just recently sold this Blue CST but I am building another. Will run the same wheel cover. Slots will be gone as well as 18" out of the box. New color will be Butternut/off White/Fawn

Re: Full wheel covers (hubcaps) anyone?
Ahhh, both very nice examples of the 67/68 and Highlander hub covering full wheel caps. Years ago, I only saw wheelcovers as the whole. Now I see on some, like The Highlanders, they are a hubcap with fancy trim ring. Like they did in the '50s with adding a trim ring/wheelcover to the hubcap.

Here is mine.. For me P01's are okay blackwall or with thin whitewalls like the red/orangetrick in pic #2 but never with Raised White Letter tires. I also prefer them on white so you get the white band between tire and wheel cover.. Here is atip if you want to run p01's on wider then original rims. The rims on my truck are 15 x 7 80's rallys with 235/75 15 tires. When these tires are done I have a set of 80's 15 x 8 inch rims which will be painted white and installed with 255/70R15 tires..

Re: Full wheel covers (hubcaps) anyone?
Nice trucks everyone. Has anyone ran 8 inch wheels, with say BFG's or Cooper Cobra's with their PO1 covers? White letters out, that is?

Its funny how tastes change. Seems like it wasn't that long ago the thought of running wheel covers on a truck wouldn't even cross my peabrain. But now I really like them, some super nice examples so far. I know there are a lot more out there. Still no 4x4's though.

Here is what I'm running on the Green '67. Not sure what year they are off of but I saw the full set over at the salvage yard and snagged them to cover up the white spokes. This poor old girl is being neglected...:( LockDoc |
