power steering conversion

has any one done a p/s conversion using the box from a 79- 84 Toyota pickup? ive seen some articles about this for '53 - '56 F100's and it seems that the box mounts where the stock box goes but gives more clearance. Just wondering if it would improve clearance in an AD with a v8.

I haven't but now you have me snooping into it. I think it was a Toyota 4x4 box I was looking at pondering if it would work for a cross steer setup with a stock axle.

On a Chevy you would still mount the Toyota box on top of the frame like the stock box is but you could build your mount so it offsets to the outside just as you would offset a stock box for a V8 swap. Running the sector shaft through the frame rail like on a Ford might put far too much angle on the drag link and cause bump steer. https://www.hotrod.com/articles/ford...ower-steering/ is the HRM article on doing the swap on a F 100

im thinking the Toyota box could mount on top of the frame where the stock ad box is. no need to drill a hole for the sector shaft. then the pitman arm would swing verticle like the ad box. run a drag link forward to the left spindle & your done. no need for a cross steer set up and all those clearance issues.

I spent many hours looking into the Toyota box, and could never find any solid information on the swap. I was close to buying one and just winging it, but I gave in on another option. I would be real curious to see what you come up with.
