transmission help
 

Hey guys need a bit of help trying to find out if my transmission is good or should i just sell and upgrade. I recently bought a 350 small block and 5 speed Borg Warner transmission off my regional manager at my job. doing a bit of research and found out my trans is a t5 world class transmission. it"s an 88 from a camaro or firebird. what I don't know, is if it's a good transmission or should i just sell it. Any help would be appreciated

Does it all work ok now and run/drive?
Are you running a 500 HP motor and slicks?
Whats your intended driving purpose of the vehicle?

ya it works. i bought the 350 and trans together and just haven't installed either of them. purpose of driving is just to cruise and enjoy the truck and no the motor is not 500hp. my truck has the original straight 6 and auto trans installed still. it runs and drives great still. I bought the 350 and trans to swap out but now i'm just not sure but wanted to know if the trans is a good one or not cause i might sell both of them or just maybe the trans

The 6 and the T5 would be a cool (nice driving) combo.

T5's don't like a lot of torque so they need to be babied behind a 350

If you’re not beating on it regularly, the T5 should hold up ok. There were a ton of them in 3rd gen camaros and fox body mustangs.
The shifter location may be close to the front edge of your seat, depending on how you mount the drivetrain.
You’ll have to figure out the clutch actuation. Stock for the truck was a mechanical linkage. The donor car was hydraulic. Typical hot rodding stuff.

It would be worth your while to put a shifter in that has stops on it. I had a Fox body and it was always reported that third gear was made of glass. It was also recommended to me to do the same thing. And that was from the guys at JBA.
