72 K5 Rear Seat, Complete
EDIT: Sold, pending payment and shipping
$500 OBO. Not parting out a complete seat. I will ship, but buyer pays shipping. It is located in La Pine, OR. Here is a link to the Google Drive with pictures, as they are *way* too big to be uploaded to the website. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1KM..._HAjCJKfYw8ixZ |

I've shipped several through greyhound

Re: 72 K5 Rear Seat, Complete
Thanks rippen, judging by the online prices that looks like it will be the cheapest.
Using the online shipping calculators from UPS and Fedex gave me some eye wateringly high shipping costs. Greyhound is like 1/3 the price. I didnt even know they did shipping. What do these normally cost to ship? |

UPS/Fedex ~$400-460 (Dimensional weight @ nearly 250lbs, only actually weighs 1/5th of that.) Greyhound $122.20 No joke, the fact that Greyhound ships large items should be stickied as they are incredibly cheaper. I even called them to confirm the price because I thought I had done something wrong. |

Re: 72 K5 Rear Seat, Complete
The most I have spent to ship from MD to CA using UPS ground is $125 for the blazer seats with all brackets. If you break it down right it will ship at 12"x 26"x 50" with thin plywood inside the cardboard to keep from damaging it. Either way you get hit with 150lb weight even though it weighs less than 80. This is based on having an account with UPS so if using a store it may be higher. I have shipped 10+ of them. FedEx sucks in my area and greyhound is non existent.

Re: 72 K5 Rear Seat, Complete
The prices I got were for 51x28x28 assembled.
I will probably break down and take it apart this weekend, less chance something gets broken in shipping that way. Have you tried shipping it in three separate boxes? Top cushion, bottom cushion, everything else? |
Re: 72 K5 Rear Seat, Complete
I just hauled it into the living room and I was going to start taking it apart when I noticed something.
The brackets come off. The arms come off. The bottom and back seat cusions are permanently attached to eachother, the only way I would be able to separate them is if I unstitched the seat to get to the brackets which are *inside* the fabric and not exposed. I have no idea how you managed to separate them to get it down to 12x26x50 which would be the size of both cushions stacked on top of each other. |

There are two large phillips screws on each side of the frame that will need to be taken out. Only remove the hog rings that hold the wing fabric covering those two screws. Put all the screws in a ziplock along with all the bolts from the arm rests and floor brackets. Remove the padded arm rest from the brackets as well. Put all of that between the 2 seat halves and secure them both together with either zip ties or rope to keep them from moving. encase with a thin sheet of plywood with cardboard over top. All in it should take less than an hour unless your screws are froze up. Main thing it to make sure you have the right size phillips to remove the side hinge screws. I bought a screw driver that has a square shank so that I can put a wrench on it to help break them free.
With the seat cover in good shape I would put the frames back to back with the brackets in between so they don't damage the covers. With the plywood on the outside it will help protect the covers from that direction. . |

I wonder if anyone makes a 1/2 drive impact attachment for a screw that large. Off to check the internet. |
Re: 72 K5 Rear Seat, Complete
I have used an impact driver before it worked great.

Re: 72 K5 Rear Seat, Complete
...looks like no matter what I do, we are pretty much required to use Greyhound.
Price for 50x26x12 is $150.62 minimum (Depending on how I put it into the system it goes all the way to $209). UPS/Fedex. That is before the box with the brackets, belts, and arm rests is shipped which will have to go in a separate box. There is no way to put them in the same box and not have a really high chance of tearing the seat backing. Before packing material too. ...I am beginning to understand why most people don't ship these things, it is quite a headache. Never expected it to be this much work. On the plus side, once I put the impact driver bit and adapter from my manual one on my actual impact driver, it zipped those screws out in a hot second. Really, the screws were hot as hell. |
Re: 72 K5 Rear Seat, Complete
Shipped, check your PMs.

Re: 72 K5 Rear Seat, Complete
I hope it gets there ok and you insured it. Last large item I shipped with Greyhound, a very nice 59 Chevy sedan dash, was lost. It took months for them to finally square up with the seller. And then the seller finally gave me my money back .. Odd situation.
